You Are Not Alone

My Experience With Postpartum Depression

Are you feeling something different than you expected after bringing home your new baby? Are you surprised by sadness, anger, despair, or hopelessness?

You are not alone. You will get through this. Look up and around. There are people who want to walk through this with you. Consider this book a friend on the journey to healing from postpartum depression.

You are Not Alone is a combination memoir and self-help devotional book meant to encourage any woman experiencing postpartum depression. With short readings and reflections taken from my journal during my months of postpartum depression, I wrote the book I wished I’d had in those dark days. It combines personal experience with information and strategies to cope, as well as spiritual reflection. It can also help a family member or friend to understand what a loved one with postpartum depression is experiencing.

My first book, You are Not Alone: My Experience with Postpartum Depression, is a memoir and self-help book that is now available for purchase on Amazon (e-book or paperback), Bookshop.org (paperback), or signed copies of the paperback at This Old Book in Grayslake.

Reading and writing have been part of my life, as far back as I can remember. Whether it was curling up with a Nancy Drew book, writing an adventure story featuring my stuffed animals, or creating a newsletter for my friends on my family’s first home computer, I wanted to be involved with the written word. The first article I wrote for the school newspaper was a review of the brand-new TV show, “ALF.” Seeing my byline was an unmatched thrill. I was hooked.

High school and college writing prepared me for a career in journalism. With my degree in communication from the College of Lake County, I spent a year both reporting for a small town weekly newspaper and editing three of the other local papers we published. I enjoyed this career very much before my husband and I began our family in 2001.

Two decades later, after homeschooling both of our children, I am drawn back to writing as my life’s passion. Encouraged by motivational speaker and author Bob Goff, I am dreaming big and working on writing projects which mean something special to me. I am a hope*writer, a member of the Historical Novel Society, and a member of the Women’s Fiction Writers Association.

I live in the Chicagoland area with my husband and best friend of 26 years, as well as our two college-age kids. In my free time, I enjoy putting together puzzles, playing board games, cheering for the Chicago Bears football team, and, of course, reading and discussing books. My first book, You are Not Alone: My Experience with Postpartum Depression, is a memoir and self-help book that is now available for purchase on Amazon.

This is a story that needs to be told again and again to new mothers, because sadly it is all too common.

Easy to read, short segments. Grounded in God’s truth in the scriptures. Such a great comfort to know women struggling with post-partum depression are not alone. There is hope and light on the horizon!

Not only is this book incredibly encouraging for those battling PPD, but it’s a great resource for anyone enduring a trial that feels too big and how to process it in the journey.
